The Mehlville Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of two assistant principals for the 2023-2024 school year: Matt Gaglio, assistant principal at Oakville High School and Jennifer Rich, traveling elementary assistant principal.

Voters in Mehlville School District passed a tax increase in April to support competitive salaries to attract and retain high-quality teachers and support staff to serve the district’s students. Improved compensation for all staff is reflected in the teacher salary schedule and the classified salary schedule for the 2023-2024 school year.

The Mehlville Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of Sara Hermann as the Mehlville School District Social Studies Director for the 2023-2024 school year.

Rodney Gerdes, a social studies teacher at Oakville High School, was named the 2022-2023 Mehlville School District Teacher of the Year at the Recognition Night ceremony on April 20, 2023.

Mehlville School District voters passed Prop E with 63.63 percent of the votes. Almost 14,000 people voted in the election held on Tuesday, April 4.

In a unanimous vote, the Mehlville Board of Education appointed Peggy Hassler and Jean Pretto to fill two vacancies on the board. The board also accepted the unofficial election results from April 4, 2023, and swore in Jeff Wolman for his second term as Board Director.

Mehlville High School English Language Arts Teacher Kelly Newton and Bernard Middle School Social Studies Teacher Robert Summers were named Outstanding Beginning Teachers by the Missouri Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (MACTE). All recipients must be in their first or second year of teaching and are nominated by their college.

During the April 4 Board of Education election, Jeff Wolman was re-elected to a three-year term. Wolman will be sworn in at the April 13 meeting of the Mehlville Board of Education. This will be Wolman’s second term on the Board.

During the past few years, principals and directors have found it increasingly difficult to hire and keep highly qualified teachers and support staff in Mehlville School District. They’ve noticed that less people are applying for open positions, and once hired, some eventually leave for higher paying positions.

The Mehlville Board of Education is asking voters to consider Proposition E to help reverse this trend. Keeping teachers in Mehlville School District long-term is important to build and maintain a positive school culture. It will also help the district avoid anticipated teacher shortages due to more competition for a smaller pool of certified educators.

In a unanimous vote on Friday evening, the Mehlville Board of Education has selected Dr. Jeff Haug as the district’s new superintendent beginning July 1, 2023. Dr. Haug will replace Dr. Gaines, who has been serving as superintendent for the past 8 years and will be retiring this summer.

Mehlville School District has hundreds of support staff employees. These employees include custodians, bus drivers, food technicians and secretaries. These incredible men and women are vital in keeping the district running.

This is the first year of the new FLEX program at Mehlville High School. Ninth-grade students in FLEX receive personalized instruction through cross-curricular lessons that showcase how different subjects are connected and how skills learned in one class can be applied to another.

Proposition E will fund competitive salaries to attract and keep excellent teachers and support staff at Mehlville School District.

On Tuesday, January 24, the Mehlville Board of Education unanimously approved the selection of the Education Governance and Leadership (EGL) Association to lead a national effort to search for the next superintendent for Mehlville School District.

Mehlville School District begins enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year on Monday, Jan. 23, 2023. At this time, families of children who turn 5 before Aug. 1, 2023, may register for kindergarten.

Mehlville School District Superintendent Dr. Chris Gaines announced today he plans to retire August 31, 2023. Dr. Gaines will have completed 28 years in education – including 22 years as a superintendent.

The district’s transportation department made some changes this year due to a bus driver shortage. Currently, the department is down 15 drivers.

Rogers Elementary School principal Dr. Patrick Keenoy is the recipient of the Distinguished Principal award from the St. Louis Suburban Elementary Principals Association (SLSEPA).

We welcomed St. John's School, St. Louis Community College, SCOPE School and MOSAIC Elementary School students and staff who have called the St. John's building home during the past century for an Open House. St. John's first opened its doors in January 1923 and will be celebrating its 100th anniversary.

This school year, Mehlville School District will use up to five virtual learning days if our schools close due to snow or inclement weather. If another snow day is needed after we use our five virtual learning days, we will use traditional snow days.

Dilara Usmanova, a sophomore at Mehlville High School, arrived on campus this year as a refugee of the war in Ukraine. She doesn’t speak English yet, but she’s found a friend in school food technician Maya Murtazayeva.

The Mehlville Board of Education unanimously approved the 2022 blended tax rate of $3.6784 at its annual tax rate hearing on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022. This rate is similar to the prior year rate of $3.6598. ​

Josh Groh, a third-grade teacher at Oakville Elementary School, has been named one of ten honorees for Missouri Regional Teacher of the Year for the St. Louis region. The distinction means that Groh is eligible to submit an application for Missouri State Teacher of the Year.

Oakville Elementary School third-grade teacher Josh Groh has been named Mehlville School District’s Teacher of the Year for the 2021-2022 school year.

The Mehlville Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of three administrators for the 2022-2023 school year: Tiffany Schwaegel, Director of Mehlville Early Childhood; Becky Bruning, Assistant Principal at Oakville High School; Dana Skrabacz, Assistant Principal at Oakville High School.

Eid al-Fitr was added as a holiday in the 2022-2023 Mehlville School District calendar following the recommendation of the district’s Calendar Committee and the approval of the Mehlville Board of Education. Eid is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslim families to mark the end of Ramadan, a month-long period of dawn-to-sunset fasting.

During the April 5 Board of Education election, Scott Huegerich and Sarah “Grace” Wright were elected to the Mehlville Board of Education. Both candidates are new to the Board of Education and will serve three-year terms.
