New clubs are building a sense of community in our schools

Mehlville School District is hosting its second Portrait of a Graduate Speaker Series in November. The event, titled “Persistence During the Pandemic,” features Dr. Bryan Pearlman, educator and mental health therapist, and a panel of mental health experts. Parents and community members are encouraged to attend the free event at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Oakville Middle School, 5950 Telegraph Road.

Adventure and Outdoor Pursuits class
New PE class allows students to adventure and explore new outdoor activities

Students in the new Adventure and Outdoor Pursuits class at Mehlville High School have already had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: canoeing on the Mississippi River. In addition to kayaking, students are going to learn and practice other outdoor activities like fishing, archery, rock climbing and hiking.

Board approves 2021 blended tax rate

The Mehlville Board of Education unanimously approved the 2021 blended tax rate of $3.6598 at its annual tax rate hearing on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021. The blended rate is about 14 cents less than the previous year of $3.8056.

The Mehlville School District Board of Education unanimously approved the budget for the 2021-2022 school year (FY22) at its June 24 meeting. The FY22 budget of $129.3 million includes a projected operating loss of $2.3 million.

Forder Elementary School teacher named a Missouri Regional Teacher of the Year

Amanda Wyatt, English Learner (EL) teacher at Forder Elementary School, has been named one of ten honorees for Missouri Regional Teacher of the Year for the St. Louis region. The distinction means she is now eligible to submit an application for Missouri State Teacher of the Year.
