Board of Education approves hiring of two new administrators

Brian Brennan and Michael WheelerMehlville School District is pleased to announce the hiring of Brian Brennan as the principal of Oakville High School and Michael Wheeler as the assistant principal of Bernard Middle School beginning with the 2022-2023 school year. The Mehlville Board of Education unanimously approved their hiring at its March 17, 2022, meeting.

Brian BrennanBrian Brennan graduated from Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education before earning a Master of Education in Secondary Administration at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He also has his educational specialist degree from Missouri Baptist University. Brennan currently serves as the interim principal of Oakville High School.

“We have such a wonderful and supportive community,” said Mr. Brennan. “We have such a wonderful and supportive community. I am looking forward to working closely with our great students, parents and staff to expand on the opportunities for our students to receive a high-quality personalized education.”

“Mr. Brennan has been dedicated to the students, staff and families of Oakville High School for the past 14 years,” said Dr. Chris Gaines, Mehlville School District superintendent. “He has excelled in the role of interim principal this semester and has proven he is the right principal to lead Oakville High School into the future.” 

Prior to being named interim principal in Jan. 2022, Brennan had been an assistant principal at OHS since 2008. He previously taught mathematics at Mehlville High School for seven years and St. John Vianney High School for 11 years.


Michael Wheeler, Bernard Middle School assistant principal
Michael WheelerMichael Wheeler graduated from the University of Roehampton in London before earning his Master of Arts in Educational Administration and Leadership from Missouri State University. He is pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership at Maryville University. He currently serves as an assistant principal at St. Louis Language Immersion School.

“Mr. Wheeler is a passionate and innovative educator with a diverse background in education that helps him connect with all stakeholders to support student success at school,” said Dr. Lauren Cumming, Bernard Middle School principal. “He will have a positive impact in our Bernard community, and we look forward to working with him next year.”

“I believe my role is to help equip students to be responsible life-long learners and prepare them for successful living by supporting every child academically, socially and emotionally,” said Mr. Wheeler. “I am looking forward to working towards that goal with Bernard's students, staff, and families.”

Prior to his current role, Wheeler worked as a fifth-grade teacher in the Republic School District and Laclede School District. He will begin serving as assistant principal of Bernard Middle School on July 1, 2022.
