AASA Lighthouse DistrictAASA, The School Superintendents Association named Mehlville School District a Lighthouse School System. This distinction is given to districts who serve as models of positive change in education.

A panel selected the district based on a list of criteria, including social, emotional and cognitive growth, creating future-ready learners, and recruiting a diverse workforce of educators. Mehlville School District is one of just 21 districts nationwide to receive this honor.

“We are really pleased and proud of the work we’ve been doing and to be named a Lighthouse School System,” said Dr. Chris Gaines, superintendent of Mehlville School District.

Mehlville School District stresses the importance of students as co-authors of their own learning. The district is committed to personalized learning and emphasizes student voice and choice facilitated and supported by expert teachers.

“The work that our ‘Lighthouse’ systems are doing is an example of providing equity-focused and future-driven change to an educational system to better respond to the needs of the students in their respective areas,” said Daniel A. Domenech, executive director of AASA. “As we emerge from the pandemic, it is critical to invoke positive best practices for the well-being, self-sufficiency and success of our young learners. I congratulate these districts, as well as all of the school districts associated with the Learning 2025 Network.”

Mehlville School District is also a member of AASA’s Learning 2025 Network, a cadre of more than 120 demonstration school systems representing forward-leaning, urban, suburban and rural school districts engaged in learning, networking and working together to help drive education policy and ultimately improve student learning.
