Board listening session on March 8 to focus on Prop S projects
Posted on 02/06/2022
Board listening session Prop SThe Mehlville School District is hosting a Board Listening Session on Tuesday, March 8, at 6:30 p.m., at Oakville Middle School. Families, staff and community members are invited to attend this meeting.

Dr. Chris Gaines, superintendent, will present an update on the status of our Prop S projects. Then, attendees will be asked to help prioritize the remaining projects. Additionally, attendees who would like to speak to board members about topics other than Prop S will have the opportunity to do so.

The project list for Prop S was originally created in 2020 based on the recommendations of the district’s Facilities Steering Committee. In 2020, our estimates indicated that these projects could be completed for $32 million. We asked for a bond issue in the amount of $35 million to provide a financial cushion for unexpected expenses and inflation. However, due to rapidly escalating construction costs and supply chain delays, $35 million does not appear to be enough to complete all of the Prop S projects. Unfortunately, we now must reprioritize our Prop S projects. We are asking for input from our parents, staff and community members to assist us in determining the most critical construction projects and determine projects that can be delayed.

Additional Prop S session scheduled for March 16
To provide additional opportunities for feedback, Mehlville School District is scheduling an informational session on Prop S at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, at Forder Elementary School. This event will also include a presentation on the status of our Prop S projects, and the opportunity for attendees to provide their feedback.

If you plan to attend the March 8 Listening Session, please RSVP online here.

If you plan to attend the March 16 Prop S Information Session, please RSVP online here.

Reservations are not required but they will help us ensure we have enough seating available.

The feedback gathered at these two meetings will be shared with the district’s Finance Committee, Facility Committee and Facilities Steering Committee in April before the district makes a recommendation on priority Prop S projects to the Board of Education in mid April.
