Superintendent Dr. Chris Gaines announced his retirement to the Board at their January 19 meeting. His retirement is effective August 31, 2023.

“One of the most important charges of a Board of Education is the hiring of the superintendent," said Peggy Hassler, Mehlville Board of Education President. "This is a responsibility that we take very seriously. The Board looks forward to working closely with EGL Association to gather input from our community and to find our next superintendent. We are committed to selecting a leader who will maintain our high expectations and who will energetically lead Mehlville School District forward."
EGL Association was one of five independent search firms the board considered for this search. EGL Association is a not-for-profit association specifically created to serve public school districts. Leadership transition services, especially superintendent searches, is one of the services offered by the association.

The Board of Education will be meeting with EGL Association soon to determine a selection timeline and to identify specific opportunities for district employees, students, families and community members to provide feedback on the selection process. The Board has established a tentative timeline to open the application period tomorrow and to announce the new superintendent in March 2023.
