The Mehlville Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of Christy Mathews as the Director of Virtual Learning for the 2022-2023 school year.
“Mrs. Mathews has done an excellent job of leading our elementary and middle school virtual learning program, our At Home program, for the past two years,” said Dr. Jeff Bresler, Assistant Superintendent, Supervision of Schools. “She is a visionary, she’s collaborative, and she’s terrific at building relationships in a virtual setting.”
Mathews is currently the Interim Director of Virtual Learning. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the district was working on plans to offer more virtual opportunities for students. “Mrs. Mathews was instrumental in accelerating those plans in response to COVID-19. Hiring her as the director marks the district’s commitment to continue offering virtual learning through our At Home program,” Dr. Bresler said.
Prior to leading At Home, Mathews taught English Language Arts (ELA) and was the ELA department chair at Oakville High School for 15 years. She has also taught ELA at Oakville Middle School. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education and Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She has also earned a Master in Educational Administration from Southeast Missouri University and a Master in Education from Southwest Missouri Baptist University. She is currently working toward a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership through Maryville University.
“I'm thrilled to continue working with our At Home virtual families,” Mathews said. "As we know, many students thrive in a virtual setting, so we are pleased to continue offering and growing this choice program to meet the diverse needs of our students."
Enrollment is open for the At Home program for students entering kindergarten through eighth grade.
