Dance Classes

Miss Tina Stemmler will introduce students to a variety of dances like tap, jazz, ballet, musical theatre dance and more. Ms. Stemmler is dance master certified with a B.A. in Dance from Webster University.


Winter/Spring Session

Dance for Kids | Ages 3-6 | January 10-March 13

This course will introduce kids (ages 3-6) to dance, movement and performance! Children will work on their social skills, expressing their emotions, practice their fine-listening skills, have a better awareness of movement, and use creativity and imagination. They will also learn to work in a group. Students will learn the basics of tap, jazz, musical theatre, ballet and pom.

*Students do not need a special outfit. They will need to wear clothes they can move around in and sneakers.

Classes will meet on the following Wednesdays from 3:30-4:15 p.m.: January 10, 17, 31, February 7, 14, 21, March 6 and 13. Classes will be held at John Cary Early Childhood Center in the Multipurpose Room located at 3155 Koch Road.

Musical Theatre Dance | Grades 6-9 | January 10-March 13

This course will teach students dance and facial movements to enhance their performance on stage and nail those future auditions! (NOTE: Miss Tina does not teach singing or choral lessons. This course is for theatrical dance only.)

*Students do not need a special outfit. They will need to wear clothes they can move around in and sneakers.

Intro to the Electric Bass Guitar

"Coop" Cooper teaches students of all ages to play the electric bass guitar at Washington Middle School.

"Coop" Cooper gives an introduction to the electric bass guitar. *Students will need an electric bass guitar, instrumental chord, Snark ST-2 guitar tuner, an extra folder and Hal Leonard's "Bass Method - Complete Edition" book. Some materials may be rented from Nottelmann Music Company (314.631.1486).

Experiencing Strings | Grades 3-5

Students in grades 3-5 have the opportunity to learn to play the violin, viola, cello or bass* through our Experiencing Strings program. We offer both beginner and advanced lessons at Blades, Oakville, Point, Rogers and Wohlwend elementary schools. We are offering beginner lessons at Hagemann, MOSAIC and Trautwein elementary schools.

The cost for the fall session of program is $119, however, students are responsible for their own instruments. If your family chooses to rent an instrument through Nottelmann Music Company (314-631-1486 phone), a separate rental fee will apply from Nottelmann directly. Registration is open now. The winter/spring session will begin in January of 2024.

Students will perform in a showcase on Tuesday, January 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Nottelmann Auditorium. (Rehearsal on January 18 at 4:15 p.m.)

Teachers Mr. Kenny and Dr. Franzi of the Hoshin Sol Academy will guide martial arts students through "the art of coordinated movement" otherwise known as Hapkido. Students will learn self-discipline, character, maturity and respect for others, while learning counter-offensive and self-defense applications.

Little Medical School | 
Grades K-5

Little Medical School courses bring science, healthcare and the exciting world of medicine to children in a creative, fun and interactive way. Little Veterinary School explores the health, diet and proper care of dogs, cats or horses. Little Doctor School teaches kids about the key responsibilities of a doctor, how the body and organs work, and introduces kids to real medical instruments. During Little Nursing School, students will assume the key functions of a nurse and use real medical instruments and administer first aid. Wilderness Medicine introduces kids to emergency situations they may encounter in the wild and how to prepare for natural disasters. Each course offers hands-on activities and lots of take-home treasures!

"Coop" Cooper will teach a variety of percussion classes during the Winter/Spring Session at Washington Middle School at 5165 Ambs Road.

Beginning/Intermediate Percussion | Grades 5-10 | January 8-April 8

This class will help students in grades 5-10 build the fundamentals of percussion. *Students will need a pair of sticks, keyboard mallets, the books, "A Fresh Approach to Mallet Percussion" and "A Fresh Approach to Snare Drum", practice pad and a folder for extra music. Some materials may be rented from Nottelmann Music Company (314.631.1486). 

Intro to Various Grooves on Drum Set | Ages 17 and under | January 8-April 22

This class will introduce students, 17 years and younger, to various grooves on the drum set. *Students will need drum sticks, music folder, headphones and the "Groove Essentials" book by Tommy Igoe.

This class will help middle school students to build their drumline techniques and skills. *Students will need FS-1 marching sticks by Innovative Percussion, practice pad (no Remo Tunable pads) and a 3-ring binder with plastic protection sheets.

Spring Community Intermediate Band

This class is for students with at least one year of musical experience who would like the structure of practicing weekly with a group of musicians at a similar level. Students must provide their own instrument and texts.

On Wednesday, May 22, the Community Intermediate Band will perform in the Spring Concert at Nottelmann Auditorium at 7 p.m. Students are responsible to rent or purchase an instrument.

Driver's Education | Ages 15+ | $325/session

There are several sessions of Driver's Education throughout the year. Winter/Spring classes meet for three (3) weeks, Monday through Thursday, from 3:30-6 p.m. Some after-class driving will be required; instructors will provide students with a schedule after the session begins. Please note that transportation to and from class is not provided by the district. All classes will take place on the Mehlville High School campus in the Witzel Learning Center (through Door 5).

Driver's Education through the Mehlville School District adheres to the requirements set forth by the State of Missouri including: classroom time, 12 hours of simulated driving, 12 hours of observation, and 3 hours of behind-the-wheel driving. Students MUST be able to attend all classes per session. There is no availability for make-up classes. Students who do not complete all required hours will not receive certification; also note that there is no refund for failure to receive certification. It is strongly recommended that students obtain their Missouri driving permit prior to the start of class.

The Missouri Whitewater Association is teaming up with Community Education to provide introductory whitewater classes in the Mehlville pool. Instructors will help build your fundamental whitewater kayaking skills, such as strokes, braces and the components of the roll.
Registration is open for all sessions which run on Sunday evenings, 5:15-8 p.m.

"Coop" Cooper will teach a variety of percussion classes during the Winter/Spring Session at Washington Middle School at 5165 Ambs Road.


Beginning/Intermediate Percussion | Grades 5-10 | January 8-April 8

This class will help students in grades 5-10 build the fundamentals of percussion. *Students will need a pair of sticks, keyboard mallets, the books, "A Fresh Approach to Mallet Percussion" and "A Fresh Approach to Snare Drum", practice pad and a folder for extra music. Intro to Various Grooves on Drum Set | Ages 17 and under | January 8-April 22

This class will introduce students, 17 years and younger, to various grooves on the drum set. *Students will need to bring drum sticks, music folder, headphones and the "Groove Essentials" book by Tommy Igoe.

Spring Community Intermediate Band

Intermediate Band
This class is for students with at least one year of musical experience who would like the structure of practicing weekly with a group of musicians at a similar level. Students must provide their own instrument and texts.

On Wednesday, May 22, the Community Intermediate Band will perform in the Spring Concert at Nottelmann Auditorium at 7 p.m. Students are responsible to rent or purchase an instrument.

Dance Classes for Adults

Miss Tina Stemmler will introduce students to a variety of dances like tap, jazz, ballet, musical theatre dance and more. Ms. Stemmler is dance master certified with a B.A. in Dance from Webster University.


Winter/Spring Session

Adult Tap Dance | Ages 18-118 | January 10-March 13

Enjoy dancing in this fun and encouraging course. Learn the tap dancers' national anthem, the "Shim Sham Shimmy" and shuffle off to "Buffalo". Miss Tina welcomes all skill levels from beginner to advanced to learn dances like the Shuffle, Flap, Maxiford, Tack Annie, Time Steps, Shim Sham, Paradiddle and more.

*Students must provide their own tap shoes.

Enroll your child in swim lessons at the Mehlville Pool. Children will learn about water safety, build their confidence and practice swimming strokes. Space is limited. Classes run for 50 minutes. The Mehlville Pool is located at 3100 Lemay Ferry Road.
