Trautwein Elementary earns Louie Award for outstanding academic growth

Trautwein Elementary School received an inaugural Louie Award from the Gateway to Success Foundation. The school earned the award for its outstanding academic growth in English language arts (ELA).

The Gateway to Success Foundation is  an organization with the goal of bringing greater recognition to high-performing public and public charter schools in St. Louis. They introduced “The Louies,” to identify and celebrate schools that demonstrate the most year-over-year improvement in student performance in math and ELA. Gateway to Success Foundation has partnered with the PRiME Center at Saint Louis University, the state’s leading education research organization.

Trautwein Elementary School was previously named one of 20 finalists for a Louie Award for demonstrating the greatest improvement in average student performance in ELA from 2022 to 2025. Receiving the Louie Award recognizes Trautwein as one of the top schools for student growth during that three-year period.

“It is an incredible honor to receive the Louie Award, specifically focused on the growth our students have and continue to make,” said Dr. Shannon Henderson, Trautwein Elementary School Principal. “Our staff’s efficacy, collaboration and dedication leads to learning experiences that promote challenge balanced with support. As a result, our students are empowered, becoming active participants in their learning, taking ownership, embracing risks and challenges, and celebrating every small and large success.”

Two other Mehlville School District schools, MOSAIC Elementary School and Washington Middle School, were also named among the 20 finalists for the first Louie Awards. Both schools were also recognized for growth in ELA.
