Students excel on Advanced Placement exams

Mehlville High School and Oakville High School students continue to shine on Advanced Placement exams.

Last year, a combined 153 Mehlville School District high school students were enrolled in at least one AP course. Students attempted 234 AP exams and scored a 3 or higher on nearly 87% of tests, demonstrating their college-level mastery of these rigorous courses.

Mehlville School District students have now improved their performance on AP exams in each of the past four school years. In 2022-2023, only 58% of students who took an AP exam earned a score of 3 or higher. That number increased to 77% in 2023-2024, 81% in 2024-2025, and 87% this year. The average score for Mehlville School District students was higher than the state average on the exams for 14 different AP courses.

“Mehlville School District is committed to providing students with a rigorous academic experience, and that includes offering more than 20 Advanced Placement courses for our high school students,” said Dr. Jeff Haug, Superintendent of Schools. “Our students are achieving at high levels, and I couldn’t be more proud of those students who choose to challenge themselves through AP courses.”

Colleges and universities may provide students with college credit for earning a 3 or higher on an AP exam. Taking AP classes and dual credit classes shows college admissions officers that a student is willing to challenge themselves academically and is ready for the academic rigor of college.

Fifteen students were named AP Scholars with Distinction for earning an average score of 3.5 or higher on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more exams. This is an increase from 6 students the previous school year.

Ten students were named AP Scholars With Honors for earning an average score of 3.25 or higher on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more exams. This is an increase from 3 students the previous school year.
