President's Note: May 2026

This spring marks an important milestone for the Mehlville School District as we launch our 2026-2031 Strategic Plan, including a new Mission Statement and updated Portrait of a Graduate. At the same time, we continue advancing a long-range capital plan designed to support our schools for decades to come.
Over the past year, through surveys, community meetings, and focus groups, we worked alongside staff, families and stakeholders to shape priorities that reflect our community’s shared goals for student success. While the Mehlville Board of Education adopts the district’s direction, it is our administrators, teachers and staff who bring that work to life every day. Their expertise and commitment turn strategic priorities into meaningful outcomes for students.
The progress we are building on today is the result of years of steady work and strong community partnership. Over time, the district has made important investments that strengthened programs, stabilized staffing, and allowed us to begin addressing long-standing facility needs.
In just the last five years, that momentum has translated into measurable results. HVAC systems that were once more than 30 years old have been fully modernized, with every unit now less than a decade old. Secure entry vestibules have been installed at every school so that visitors enter monitored, enclosed spaces designed with student safety as the priority. We have strengthened our ability to attract and retain high-quality educators by establishing competitive compensation for all staff. Strong academic performance across the district reinforces that when we invest in our people and our schools, students benefit.
These results demonstrate what is possible when a community and district work together and build trust over time.
At the same time, significant facility needs remain. Bringing all 18 schools fully into modern, 21st-century learning environments will require continued discipline, thoughtful investment, and long-term partnership as we prioritize improvements across our district’s buildings and infrastructure in the years ahead. The community-driven Facilities Steering Committee laid important groundwork in evaluating districtwide needs, and the district is now moving that work forward, guided by data, fiscal responsibility, and a commitment to strong learning environments.
The recognitions in this edition, from the Louie Awards to the many staff and student celebrations, remind us why this planning matters. Excellence is already happening across our district. Our responsibility is to ensure it continues and grows.
To our staff and students, thank you for your daily dedication. To our community, thank you for the trust and partnership that have made this progress possible.
The future of Mehlville is not left to chance. It is being planned thoughtfully, guided carefully, and carried forward by people who care deeply about our students. The Board of Education is proud to support that work and grateful to serve alongside a community that makes it possible.
