Elementary students enjoy new instruments thanks to a generous donation

Mehlville School District elementary school students have new instruments to play in music class thanks to a donation from the family of a former superintendent.

Dixie Rogers, wife of the late Dr. Bob Rogers, donated $10,000 to purchase musical instruments and supplies for elementary school students. Dr. Rogers is a former Mehlville School District superintendent and Alumni Hall of Fame inductee.

With the donation, each school’s music teacher was able to choose what to purchase to best support their students. Items purchased included:

  • Recorders
  • Guitars
  • Drums
  • Piano keyboards
  • Rhythm sticks
  • Ukuleles
  • Percussion instruments
  • Microphones and speakers
  • A music rug

“We are deeply grateful to Dixie Rogers and the Rogers family for their generous donation to the district elementary music programs,” said Dr. Laurie Tretter Larkin, Director for Fine Arts and Federal Grants. “This gift will make a lasting impact on the growth of our young musicians.”
