The Mehlville Board of Education approved the hiring of Dr. Jason Buatte as the principal of Bernard Middle School for the 2025-2026 school year.

The Mehlville School District has several openings for bus drivers for the 2025-2026 school year and is now accepting applications.

Mehlville High School and Oakville High School held their 2025 graduation ceremonies on Sunday, June 1, at Chaifetz Arena.

Oakville High School has been named a 2025 National School of Character. OHS is one of just 71 schools across the country to receive the honor and the only high school in Missouri to receive the honor in 2025.

The Mehlville School District Board of Education approved the hiring of three administrators for the 2025-2026 school year at its March 13 meeting.

At their first meeting on April 3, 2025, members of the Strategic Plan Steering Committee identified five potential themes, or areas of focus, for the 2026-2031 Strategic Plan.

At its April 10 meeting, the Mehlville Board of Education approved the hiring of four new administrators.

On April 8, Serene Wilkinson and Ann Zimpfer were elected to three-year terms on the Mehlville Board of Education, according to unofficial election results from St. Louis County Election Board.

With the completion of the new security entrance at Trautwein Elementary School in March, every school in the Mehlville School District now has a safer entrance thanks to our community's support of Prop S.

Elementary and middle school students in the Mehlville School District are learning English language arts through a new curriculum resource called Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts. This resource helps teachers provide students with reading, writing, knowledge and interpersonal skills that will help them succeed in school and throughout life. 

Prop A has funded critical roofing, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning improvements throughout the Mehlville School District since the 2016-2017 school year.

Four Mehlville School District citizens have filed their candidacy for two positions on the Mehlville Board of Education. Both positions are three-year terms. The following information was provided by the candidates. District staff do not edit their responses. Candidates are listed as their names will appear on the ballot. 

The Mehlville School District is nearing the end of the lifecycle of its current strategic plan and is looking forward to 2026-2031. The Mehlville Board of Education approved the hiring of Dr. Julie Durham as the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools and Dr. Jason Landherr as the Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools for the 2025-2026 school year.

Mehlville School District will offer its free Summer Session program for all children entering kindergarten through 12th grade, June 2-27, 2025. Registration opens March 3 for grades K-8 and March 25 for high school. Registration instructions will be provided at bit.ly/msdr9summersession.

Oakville High School has been named a 2025 Missouri School of Character by CharacterPlus. OHS is one of just 16 schools from across the state to receive the honor this year.
 

Chris Ramey, the Oakville Middle School band director, received the David B. Goodwin Outstanding Young Music Educator Award from the Missouri Music Educators Association. This award is given to one young music educator in the state each year who has shown extraordinary promise, diligence and success. 

Jessica Smith, a math teacher at Mehlville High School, received the Exceptional Educator Award from the Affton-Lemay Chamber of Commerce. This award recognizes teachers from schools in the 63125 ZIP code for professional excellence in the classroom and their dedication to students.

The MOSAIC Elementary School lottery application is now open for the 2025-2026 school year. 

In addition to kindergarten, MOSAIC also has openings for students in first through fifth grades. To be considered for MOSAIC, families must complete the application by Friday, February 28. Parents will be notified of the lottery results by email in March. 

Mehlville School District is preparing to embark on a year-long journey to draft its Strategic Plan: 2026-2031. As we prepare for 2026, the district will be asking questions and analyzing what we can do better to meet the goals and priorities identified by YOU – our community.

High school students in the Mehlville School District are learning financial literacy skills in Financial Planning that can immediately be applied to their lives, like investments, budgeting and credit.

At its January 16, 2025, meeting, the Mehlville Board of Education approved a full day early childhood program at Bierbaum Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year. This pilot program marks the first time Mehlville has provided full-day early childhood education.

The Mehlville School District is holding open interviews for bus drivers, transportation mechanics, custodians, substitute nurses, substitute health room assistants and substitute teachers. 

Rose Pizzo, the cafeteria manager at Bernard Middle School, has been nominated for a National Life Group LifeChanger of the Year Award. This award celebrates educators and support staff who make a significant difference in students’ lives by exemplifying excellence, positive influence and leadership.

n 2024, the Mehlville School District saw more students scoring advanced or proficient on Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) tests across almost all grade levels and subjects.

The district showed the most improvement in middle school math, high school government and seventh-grade English language arts.

Our students do unbelievable things everyday, and I am so lucky to get to experience this as I visit our schools. I believe more and more with every passing day, that this is an amazing school district and an unbelievable community. We cannot provide the education for our students at the level we do without community support, and for that I am grateful. 

Stephanie Bailey, a fifth-grade teacher at Hagemann Elementary School, is Mehlville School District’s Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award recipient for the 2024-2025 school year.

The Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award is given to educators in the St. Louis area each year who are examples of excellence in their field. Each school in Mehlville School District nominates one teacher for the award, then a committee selects a district representative.

Applications are now open for the MSDR9 Grow Your Own Scholarship for Future Educators, a scholarship for Mehlville School District alumni pursuing teaching as a career path. Applications are due Friday, January 17.

The 2024 Mehlville School District resident survey will be arriving in randomly selected mailboxes over the next few days. The survey, prepared by Opinion Research Specialists, asks for your opinions and perceptions about the operations and management of Mehlville School District.

Through the creation of cultural identity boxes, English II: World Literature and Composition students at Oakville High School learned more about themselves and the impact an author’s culture can have on their writing.

Any person wishing to file for the Mehlville School District Board of Education may do so at the St. Louis County Board of Elections, 725 Northwest Plaza Dr., St. Ann, MO 63074. Filing will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2024, through Tuesday, December 31, 2024, during regular office hours 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. December 31, 2024, the office will close at 5:00 pm.  They will be closed on December 25, 2024. Please check the county website for any additional dates they may be closed.

Learning in the Mehlville School District isn’t confined to the four walls of our classrooms. Many of our teachers are working to provide students with unique learning experiences using outdoor classrooms on our campuses.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Mehlville School District can use up to five virtual learning days if our schools close due to snow or inclement weather. If more than five weather closures occur, the district will use traditional snow days.

We spoke to 10 recent alumni about their career accomplishments and how their experience in the Mehlville School District prepared them for life after graduation.

The week of October 7-11, 2024, schools throughout Mehlville School District will be collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items. The efforts are part of Fill Up the Pickup, a grassroots food collection that started in Oakville during the COVID-19 pandemic.

At its annual Tax Rate Hearing on September 26, 2024, the Mehlville Board of Education approved the 2024 tax rates. The 2024 blended tax rate will be $4.0070

Mehlville School District students had safer school entrances and more comfortable classrooms at the start of the 2024-2025 school year due to summer construction. Several schools received new security entrances, while others received HVAC upgrades and roof replacements.

A Middle School Schedule Steering Committee was formed last school year to research and provide feedback in the development of a new middle school schedule that is anchored in the values of student achievement, providing a structure that allows for increased instructional time, advanced pathways and expanded options, and personalization for students.

Mehlville School District is using Infinite Campus for our Parent Portal and Student Information System starting with the 2024-2025 school year.

First-grade students at Wohlwend Elementary School learned about economics by creating goods and selling them to kindergarten student shoppers.

The Mehlville Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of Dr. Samantha Gatzemeyer as assistant principal at Blades Elementary School and Hagemann Elementary School for the 2024-2025 school year.

St. Louis Community College awarded Mehlville School District for being the school district with the most students taking dual enrollment courses through STLCC.

A one-of-a-kind experience is allowing some Mehlville School District students to learn cross-curricular concepts from the depths of Cliff Cave.

Students in Brian Adams’ art class at Oakville Elementary School have been leading art lessons for their classmates after mastering skills.

Students at Beasley Elementary School learned about the life cycle through observations of chickens. 

Students in Ms. Griffith’s science class at Washington Middle School have been learning about ecosystems. One of the focuses was how dams, whether beaver- or man-made, can lead to the creation of a new ecosystem.

The Mehlville Board of Education unanimously approved hiring Jennifer Rich as the principal of Point Elementary School for the 2024-2025 school year.

The Mehlville Board of Education has unanimously approved several bids to replace aging HVAC equipment. As a result of the increase in assessed values of Mehlville School District properties, the board has approved almost $8 million in bids for HVAC work in the summer of 2024 alone.

Mehlville High School seniors Sam Herbig, Tyler Langford and Luke Mitchell have shared a love of music since middle school. They’re now exploring how to turn that passion into a career in music education by using the MyPath program to mentor middle school students.

Tony Brown, the band director at Mehlville High School, is the 2024 recipient of the Missouri Music Educators Association’s Dr. Wynne Harrell Outstanding Music Educator Award.

You can see the craftsmanship of design lab students throughout the Bernard Middle School campus. Students in this class are improving their school by identifying needs and solving problems through industrial design.

One of Sahnam Mohabbat’s favorite things about attending Oakville High School is the diversity of the student body. She approached the school administration about creating an event to highlight and celebrate the school’s multiculturalism.

Cynthia Biggs, the reading specialist at Point Elementary School, started the reading buddies program 15 years ago to provide students with extra support in reading. The program has continued to grow, proving beneficial for younger and older students, as well as their teachers.

Kevin Green, physical education teacher at Blades Elementary School, is Mehlville School District’s Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award recipient for the 2023-2024 school year. 

Mehlville School District’s high school students have opportunities for relevant, real-world college and career experiences.

The Alumni Hall of Fame Selection Committee selected six inductees for the Mehlville School District Alumni Hall of Fame Class of 2023.

Rodney Gerdes, a social studies teacher at Oakville High School, has been named one of 10 honorees for Missouri Regional Teacher of the Year for the St. Louis region.
