Elementary and middle school students in the Mehlville School District are learning English language arts through a new curriculum resource called Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts. This resource helps teachers provide students with reading, writing, knowledge and interpersonal skills that will help them succeed in school and throughout life. 

Meet the Candidates

Four Mehlville School District citizens have filed their candidacy for two positions on the Mehlville Board of Education. Both positions are three-year terms. The following information was provided by the candidates. District staff do not edit their responses. Candidates are listed as their names will appear on the ballot.

The Mehlville Board of Education approved the hiring of Dr. Julie Durham as the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools and Dr. Jason Landherr as the Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools for the 2025-2026 school year.

Summer Session

Mehlville School District will offer its free Summer Session program for all children entering kindergarten through 12th grade, June 2-27, 2025. Registration opens March 3 for grades K-8 and March 25 for high school. Registration instructions will be provided at bit.ly/msdr9summersession.

Jessica Smith, a math teacher at Mehlville High School, received the Exceptional Educator Award from the Affton-Lemay Chamber of Commerce. This award recognizes teachers from schools in the 63125 ZIP code for professional excellence in the classroom and their dedication to students.

The MOSAIC Elementary School lottery application is now open for the 2025-2026 school year.

In addition to kindergarten, MOSAIC also has openings for students in first through fifth grades. To be considered for MOSAIC, families must complete the application by Friday, February 28. Parents will be notified of the lottery results by email in March.

At its January 16, 2025, meeting, the Mehlville Board of Education approved a full day early childhood program at Bierbaum Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year. This pilot program marks the first time Mehlville has provided full-day early childhood education.

n 2024, the Mehlville School District saw more students scoring advanced or proficient on Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) tests across almost all grade levels and subjects.

The district showed the most improvement in middle school math, high school government and seventh-grade English language arts.

Our students do unbelievable things everyday, and I am so lucky to get to experience this as I visit our schools. I believe more and more with every passing day, that this is an amazing school district and an unbelievable community. We cannot provide the education for our students at the level we do without community support, and for that I am grateful.

Stephanie Bailey, a fifth-grade teacher at Hagemann Elementary School, is Mehlville School District’s Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award recipient for the 2024-2025 school year.

The Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award is given to educators in the St. Louis area each year who are examples of excellence in their field. Each school in Mehlville School District nominates one teacher for the award, then a committee selects a district representative.

The 2024 Mehlville School District resident survey will be arriving in randomly selected mailboxes over the next few days. The survey, prepared by Opinion Research Specialists, asks for your opinions and perceptions about the operations and management of Mehlville School District.

Candidate filing for Board of Education

Any person wishing to file for the Mehlville School District Board of Education may do so at the St. Louis County Board of Elections, 725 Northwest Plaza Dr., St. Ann, MO 63074. Filing will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2024, through Tuesday, December 31, 2024, during regular office hours 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. December 31, 2024, the office will close at 5:00 pm.  They will be closed on December 25, 2024. Please check the county website for any additional dates they may be closed.

Learning in the Mehlville School District isn’t confined to the four walls of our classrooms. Many of our teachers are working to provide students with unique learning experiences using outdoor classrooms on our campuses.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Mehlville School District can use up to five virtual learning days if our schools close due to snow or inclement weather. If more than five weather closures occur, the district will use traditional snow days.

Visitors to Point Elementary School must now enter this secure lobby and speak to a staff member before they're granted access to the rest of the school. 

Mehlville School District students had safer school entrances and more comfortable classrooms at the start of the 2024-2025 school year due to summer construction. Several schools received new security entrances, while others received HVAC upgrades and roof replacements.

Share your thoughts on a draft middle school schedule

A Middle School Schedule Steering Committee was formed last school year to research and provide feedback in the development of a new middle school schedule that is anchored in the values of student achievement, providing a structure that allows for increased instructional time, advanced pathways and expanded options, and personalization for students.

MyPath trio explores a career in music education through mentorship

Mehlville High School seniors Sam Herbig, Tyler Langford and Luke Mitchell have shared a love of music since middle school. They’re now exploring how to turn that passion into a career in music education by using the MyPath program to mentor middle school students.

Reading buddy program supports literacy and friendship

Cynthia Biggs, the reading specialist at Point Elementary School, started the reading buddies program 15 years ago to provide students with extra support in reading. The program has continued to grow, proving beneficial for younger and older students, as well as their teachers.
