Mehlville School District is pleased to announce that Erin Kennedy will be assistant principal of Bernard Middle School beginning with the 2019-2020 school year. Last night, the Mehlville School District Board of Education unanimously voted to approve her hiring. Several highly qualified candidates applied for the position, and Bernard staff and parents were all involved in the selection process.

“We are excited to welcome Mrs. Kennedy into our Bernard community,” said Lauren Cumming, current assistant principal at Bernard. Cumming will be the school's principal beginning in July 2019. “Mrs. Kennedy is an energetic and passionate instructional leader who will collaborate with our students and teachers as we help every student succeed. She has a passion for continuous learning and will find meaningful ways to support our teachers as they work to meet the ever-changing needs of our students."

Kennedy is currently an English language arts teacher at Orchard Farm High School. She taught ELA for 10 years at Orchard Farm High School, and she was the librarian at Orchard Farm Elementary School for two years. Kennedy has served as student council adviser, climate and culture committee leader and professional development committee leader for Orchard Farm High School. Kennedy earned a Bachelor of Arts from Lindenwood University. She’s earned two master’s degrees from Lindenwood, one in education/character education and another in school administration. She also has an Educational Specialist Degree in Instructional Leadership.

"I am beyond excited to begin working with the staff and students at Bernard Middle School," Kennedy said. "I admire Mehlville's commitment to individualized education and innovation in classrooms, and I am looking forward to learning from a dynamic leader like Mrs. Cumming."

Kennedy will assume the role of assistant principal on July 1, 2019. She replaces Lauren Cumming who was promoted to Bernard Middle School principal next school year.
