St. Luke’s United Methodist Church donated $849 to Forder Elementary for the purchase of bilingual books. The books will be available for any student to check out.

English is not the native language for about 35 percent of students at Forder Elementary, said Whitney Maus, principal at Forder. Eighteen languages are spoken by students.

"Our students are excited to share their language with other kids," Maus said. "These books expose our students who are not bilingual to what it is like to speak and read in another language."
