Contact the board
The Mehlville School District Board of Education welcomes feedback from constituents in several ways.
Provide public comment at a Board of Education Meeting
Any Mehlville School District resident who would like to address the Board on a matter that affects the district can speak during the Open Comments period at any school board meeting.
The first comment period is at the beginning of the meeting and is limited to issues on that night's school board meeting agenda. The second comment period is near the end of the meeting and can focus on any district issue or concern. During the meeting, the board cannot respond to comments made during either period.
Unless otherwise noted, residents must sign up in person immediately before the meeting to speak during open comments. Sign-up sheets are available near the meeting entrance during the half-hour preceding the meeting. For example, if the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m., sign-up sheets are available from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Be prepared to provide your name, address and topic of the comments to be made. Three minutes will be allotted per person. When a group wishes to address the board, the group must pick a spokesperson, and that individual will have five minutes to speak for the entire group.
If you have questions about making an open comment, please contact Susan Hampel at 314-467-5002 or hampels@msdr9.org.
Attend a committee meeting
The Mehlville Board of Education has six chartered committees to advise them on several topics. Learn more about chartered committees.
A note on resolving problems
If citizens wish to express themselves regarding a specific school, teacher or child, the board requests that dialogue begin at the level closest to the concern. Often concerns can be resolved at step one or two listed below.
Step One: Talk with the teacher or guidance counselor. If not resolved …
Step Two: Contact the principal. If not resolved …
Step Three: Contact the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education or the Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education. If not resolved …
Step Four: Contact the Superintendent.
If the concern has not been resolved after step four, citizens may contact the Board of Education.
