Mission: The mission of the Mehlville School District Department of English Language Development is to uphold students’ civil rights by supporting academic and cultural development through a research-based curriculum to meet academic proficiency. We believe language development is influenced by teachers, administrators, parents, and students to maximize educational impact.

Vision: The vision of the Mehlville School District Department of English Language Development is to develop multilingual and multiliterate students who actively participate in the community.

WIDA Guiding Principles of Language Development:
Multilingual learners (MLs) refers to all children and youth who are, or have been, consistently exposed to multiple languages. It includes students known as English language learners (ELLs) or dual language learners (DLLs); heritage language learners; and students who speak varieties of English or indigenous languages.
