Volunteer Requirements
Any person who wishes to volunteer in the Mehlville School District, must complete the following Intent to Volunteer Form AND register with the Family Care Safety Registry AND complete a fingerprint background check through the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Once all required materials have been received and reviewed, your name will be added to the district list of cleared volunteers. You may NOT volunteer until you have received confirmation from your principal that your name is on the district cleared volunteer list. Please note that it can take between 2 to 6 weeks for the district receive background check results.
Complete the Intent to Volunteer Form
We are working to fix the volunteer form and will accept background check requests through the month of November.
Are you a school visitor or a school volunteer?
To ensure the safety and security of our students and staff, we have different procedures for visitors and volunteers. Please review this guide to understand the difference between visiting and volunteering and the requirements for each role. Volunteers will need to complete the Intent to Volunteer Form above. If you have any questions, please contact your school's principal.
School visitors
A visitor is anyone who is on campus for a short, specific, one-time purpose and is never left alone with a student. This includes:
- Parents or guardians attending a meeting.
- Parents or guardians eating lunch with a child.
- Guests for a school assembly, performance or special event.
- Individuals dropping off a student or an item at the office.
- Vendors or contractors with a scheduled appointment.
Requirements for school visitors:
Sign-In: All visitors must report directly to the main office to sign in.
Photo ID: A valid, government-issued photo ID (such as a driver's license) is required for all visitors.
Visitor's Badge: Upon entry to a building, your driver’s license will be scanned using Raptor and you will be issued a visitor's badge that must be worn visibly at all times while on school property.
Designated Areas: Visitors should remain in the specific area related to their purpose (e.g., the main office, gymnasium for an assembly). Unsupervised access to classrooms or student areas is not permitted. All visitor activities will take place under the supervision of school personnel.
School volunteers
A volunteer is an individual who regularly provides their time, skills and services to support the school community on an ongoing basis, and may spend time alone with a student without the supervision of a staff member. This includes:
- Classroom assistants
- Field trip chaperones and overnight field trip chaperones
- Tutors or mentors
- Library helpers
- Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) members who work on campus
- Anyone who consistently volunteers in a school and who may be alone with a student or students.
Requirements for School Volunteers
Due to their regular interaction with students, volunteers must complete a more comprehensive screening process.
