Oakville High School has been named a 2025 Missouri School of Character by CharacterPlus. OHS is one of just 16 schools from across the state to receive the honor this year.
OHS was selected for demonstrating a focus on character development that has positively impacted student achievement, student behavior and school climate.
“We believe in providing a welcoming learning environment for all students,” said Brian Brennan, OHS principal. “We are incredibly honored to have CharacterPlus recognize our ongoing efforts to provide a positive experience for our students and community.”
CharacterPlus is the Missouri affiliate of Character.org’s “11 Principles of Effective Character Education” program. Founded in 1993, Character.org is a national nonprofit based in Washington, D.C. It works with schools, families, workplaces and other communities to inspire, educate and empower people to be ethical and compassionate citizens. Character.org is composed of character leaders dedicated to individual growth and success through the advancement of quality character development in all schools and communities. The impact of this is seen through improved academic achievement, decline in behavioral problems such as truancy and an increase in an overall positive school climate.
OHS will hold the Missouri School of Character designation for five years and will now be evaluated for National School of Character honors. OHS was previously named a National School of Character in 2020.
