The public will have a chance to get more information about the recently approved Choice School Of Innovation on Tuesday, February 21, when CSOI Principal Dr. Scott Clark hosts a public meeting at the Nottelmann Auditorium.  The meeting begins at 7pm.  It will also be live streamed on YouTube.

Enrollment will be done via a lottery, with the school demographics mirroring the overall demographics of the District.  Applications must be submitted by Friday, February 24.  Go to the CSOI tab on the homepage of the website to register online or to download an application.

The CSOI will bring the very latest teaching techniques into the classrooms at what is currently the St. John school, located right across the street from the Mehlville High School and administration complex.  Current Forder principal Dr. Scott Clark is in charge of the new school.  “I am totally overwhelmed by the support shown by the board,” said Dr. Clark.  “This new elementary school will give students an exciting new path in their education, and it will hopefully inspire how we teach children in every Mehlville District school.”

The board members spent nearly an hour debating the pros and cons of creating a new elementary school before voting on the proposal.  “This is a proven concept.  It has worked in other places,” board member Larry Felton said.  “From a concept this is a no brainer.  From finances how can you not take the risk?  The greatest risk is to do nothing.”

For the first year, the CSOI will have grades Kindergarten through 4th grade.  For the 2018-19 school year it will add 5th grade classes.

The proposed Choice School Of Innovation (CSOI) continues to take shape, thanks to the efforts of Dr. Scott Clark and his CSOI committee which consists of District staff members and parents.  The creation of a new elementary school is a complicated process with many interconnected parts, from curriculum to staffing to enrollment to transportation to food service to funding and much more. Putting all these different pieces together is both exciting and challenging.

Dr. Clark and District administrators continue to get lots of questions and feedback from the community, which are important parts of the school creation process.  Many details are still evolving and will continue to evolve right up until the time the Board of Education considers and votes on the plan at its January 18th meeting.  To answer some of those questions and to update the community on the work being done, the CSOI committee has prepared a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).  We encourage everyone to read the attached document so they have a better understanding about the proposed school and how it will benefit the children of the Mehlville School District.
