Mehlville High Football Field, Track To Close For The Summer
Posted on 05/21/2017
It’s always a popular place for walkers on nice summer nights, but the Mehlville High School track will not be open for the next several months due to maintenance on the track and a total replacement of the football field surface.
“We are going to have a new protective coating put on the track,” explains Facilities Director Steve Habeck. “We realize closing the track is an inconvenience, but this kind of maintenance will extend the life of the surface and save taxpayers a substantial amount of money in the future.”
The Mehlville High football field will be getting all new artificial turf. The current surface has been in place for a decade and it has reached the end of its useful life. Innovations in the design of artificial turf means that the new surface will last longer than the old turf and it could help reduce injuries.
Summer walkers still have several exercise options in the District. Bernard Middle, Buerkle Middle, Oakville Middle, Washington Middle and Oakville High schools all have tracks that are open to the public. The Mehlville High football field and track is expected to open in early August.
